Without the economic investment incentives, exploration and production of oil and natural gas, as we know it, will drastically decline. Trillions of dollars will be lost, tens of thousands of jobs will be lost and our nation’s energy security will be severely threatened.
The Energy Security Alliance is a group of Associations, Government Organizations and businesses who foresee a crisis arising that will have a crippling effect on the Energy Security of the United States. The Alliance was formed in early March of 2009 to help the Louisiana’s Congressional delegation protect the Energy Security of the US by promoting domestic energy sources and sound public policy.
The Energy Security Alliance was initially formed as a reaction to President Barack Obama’s proposed budget for FY 2010. Don Briggs, the President of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association, which consists of over 600 independent oil and natural gas operators in the state of Louisiana, spearheaded the formation of the Alliance.
President Obama’s budget proposal included tax increases aimed directly at the oil and natural gas industry, while simultaneously repealing the various tax incentives and standard loss write-offs that keep the industry afloat. While this proposed budget was particularly harmful to Louisiana, it represented a much larger risk to the security of the United States. The Energy Security Alliance was created to combat these kind of legislative attempts.
